چکیده

The problems of extension and shear behavior of structural elements made of carbon steel and subjected to large thermomechanical loads are investigated. The analysis is based on nonlinear geometric and constitutive relations, and is expressed in a rate form. The materiai constitutive eqtiations arc capab!e of reproducing all nonisothermal, elasto-viscoplastic characteristics. The results of the test problems show that: (i) the formulation can accommodate very large strains and rotations, (ii) the model incorporates the simplification associated with rate-insensitive elastic response without losing the ability to model a rate-temperature dependent yield strength and plasticity, and (iii) the formulation does not display oscillatory behavior in the stresses for the simple shear problem.

Analysis of adiabatic shear bands in elasto-thermo-viscoplastic materials by modified smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (MSPH) method

We use the modified smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (MSPH) method to analyze shear strain localization in elasto-thermo-viscoplastic materials that exhibit strainand strain-rate hardening and thermal softening. A homogeneous solution of simple shearing deformations of the body is perturbed and the resulting initial-boundary-value problem analyzed by the MSPH method. It is found that the deforma...

On the Small and Finite Deformation Thermo-elasto-viscoplasticity Theory for Strain Localization Problems: Algorithmic and Computational Aspects

ABSTRACT. This work is focused on the numerical implementation of thermo-viscoplastic constitutive equations in small and finite strain contexts using FEM. A length scale parameter is introduced implicitly through viscosity in order to address strain localization in the (initial) boundary value problems. The mathematical structure of the infinitesimal viscoplasticity theory is concise and simil...

Shear bands due to heat flux prescribed at boundaries

We analyze the initiation and development of a shear band in a thermo-elasto-viscoplastic body deformed in simple shear by tangential velocity and heat flux prescribed at the outer bounding surfaces. Unlike previous studies no defect is introduced to initiate a shear band. The prescribed heat flux acts as a defect, and the shear band initiation time depends upon it. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Thermo-poro-mechanical analysis of rapid fault deformation

In this paper the basic mathematical structure of a thermo-poro-mechanical model for faults under rapid shear is discussed. The analysis is 1D in space and concerns the infinitely extended fault. The gauge material is considered as a two-phase material consisting of a thermo-elastic fluid and of a thermoporo-elasto-viscoplastic skeleton. The governing equations are derived from first principles...

A FEM Multiscale Homogenization Procedure using Nanoindentation for High Performance Concrete

This paper aims to develop a numerical multiscale homogenization method for prediction of elasto-viscoplastic properties of a high performance concrete (HPC). The homogenization procedure is separated into two-levels according to the microstructure of the HPC: the mortar or matrix level and the concrete level. The elasto-viscoplastic behavior of individual microstructural phases of the matrix a...
